1979 School Magazine
l.s.c.F. REPORT 1979 This year the l.S.C.F. really has a lot to praise the Lord for. Besides increasing in numbers and having a great time within the group and on camps, a lot of girls have come to realize that there is a lot more to life than they had previously thought. To many people, the term 'Chris- tian' is rather vague; a person who goes to church or l.S.C.F. perhaps, or someone who prays or even reads the Bible. A lot of girls have found out that there is more to it than that. They began to see some real meaning in Christmas and Easter. Yes, we all know that "Jesus died on the Cross to save our sins" but what does that really have to do with us? Many girls have found out this year that Jesus's death was not just an ordinary irrelevant piece of history. Jesus not only died to take the place of man, and to reconcile us to the perfect sinless G,od; He rose again. He still lives today, not only in Heaven, but in the lives of those who believe in Him as their Saviour. This sounds rather vague and irrelevant to ordinary Iife. Bu_t as the girls who have become Christians can tell you, it's not. A Christian is a person just like you or me with the one difference of having said "Fight, God this is Your life now. l'll do what You want," Christians don't have to be saints (after all, there are no sairlts at B.G.G.S., but there are Christians) or martyrs, "Chris- tians aren't perfect, just forgiven." And as the LS.C.F. can tell you, Christians have a lot of fun. This year we have had great fun and we've learnt a lot together. Throughout the year, guest speakers including Keith Drinkall and Mrs. Rawson from Scripture Union, and John Mackay, a science teacher from B.G.S. have spoken to us. We would like to thank these people, as well as Mrs. Edwards, who frequently takes Bible Studies, Chris O'Gorman, a Uni. student who always helps with our Friday meetings, the l.S.C.F. committee and all the girls who have led our meetings.
Our activities during the year have included discussions, regular Bible study and prayer meetings, two Coffee shops with Gospel singing groups, a stall and a display on School Day, hosting a Social attended by other schools, and the inevitable camps. For those girls who haven't been on an LS.C.F. camp we warn you: get into the habit nowl lf you don't, you may find yourseli trying to cram half a dozen into your last year at school, as many girls have this year. These camps have a compulsive addiction and one prominent sixth former has been heard to say that "Heaven will be like an eternal l.S.C.F. camp." These camps are not just 'anolher lot of camps' and they have the advantage of being quite cheap. lf you're still not convinced, have a look at the accompanying photos and reports. All through this year we've felt the Lord guiding and directing us, and that is the only reason for the tremen- dous growth of our l.S.C.F. We have grown spiritually, and in favour with the Lord and one another, and we do praise Him for this and for the l.S.C.F. group and its com- mittee in 1980, and "We know that in all things God works for good with those who love Him, those whom He has called according to His purpose."
