WATERPOLO REPORT 1977"1S78 Student interest and participation in Waterpolo con- tinued to increase during the 1977-1978 Waterpolo Season, sixty-six present pupils and three "old girls" playing for B.G.G.S. lN Q.A.J.W.P.A. fixtures. Our club fielded nine teams - three under fourteen (U14), three under sixteen (U16), and an under eighteen team in the Junior fixtures, and for the first time entering teams in Open Division - both B grade and A grade. ln each of the seven divisions that B.G.G.S. contested, our teams played in Grand Finals. Premierships were won in 148, 144, 164, U1B and B grade Open while our 'l68 and Open A-grade teams were runners-up. This would be a record success for Club Waterpolo in Brisbane. Further honours were achieved by B.G.G.S. when seven (7) of our players were chosen in a fourteen player Tour- ing Under Eighteen Queensland Team which competed in New Zealand Club Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand, in January. This Queensland Under Eigh- teen Team won the titles and drew a Test Series of three matches with the Open New Zealand Women's Team selec.ted to tour Australia - a most creditable perfor- mance. Our touring U18 representatives were Sue Gor- don, Anne Martin, Jenni Morton, Linda Sanders, Julte Seale, Carolyn Somerville, and Jackie (Jacko) Thomas. On their return from New Zealand, Sue Gordon and Jackie Thomas gained selection in the Queensland Open Womens' Team which won the silver medal contest at the National Titles held here in Brisbane. The enormous success enjoyed this season by our club would not have been possible without our coach - Bob Wilson (Polo). Once again a sincere vote of thanks and appreciation to Bob for the time, effort, and interest that he has devoted to our teams. Our thanks also to Mr. Ken Morton, Mr. Barrie Seale, and Dr. David Gordon for their coaching and organizing help. Sue Gordon
