ROBOTICS CLUB
R obotics Club is a co-curricular activity where Year 7 to 12 students from BGGS and BGS can broaden and enhance their technological skills in design, engineering, and computer programming. Every Tuesday after school, students meet at Bread House to plan, design and prototype robots. Our focus is preparing for the annual Future Tech Challenge, an international competition designed for secondary students to problem solve complex robotic solutions to meet the annual design brief.
The competition brief was released mid-September and we started building and brainstorming prototypes for our robot. On game day, teams across the state compete and interact in various alliances to improve their teamwork and help each other broaden their ability to work in partnership with others. This always involves vital skills of problem-solving, communication, professionalism, and teamwork. In past competitions, we have achieved outstanding results, placing third nationally last year. The Future Tech Competition is always a highly anticipated, thought provoking, and an interactive experience with peers. We have thoroughly enjoyed partaking in the opportunity and highly recommend it to interested students. Julia Wang (8W)

SONGWRITER STUDIO
I n July, selected songwriters had the opportunity to workshop their music with the amazing Mr Mark Sholtez. Mark is a Singer/Songwriter and Lecturer of Contemporary Music—Songwriting and Production at the University of Southern Queensland. It was great to watch how Mr Sholtez workshopped each of our songs. Even though each of us had created pieces that were different and unique from each other, the feedback was so useful and applicable to our own songwriting. I brought in a song that I had not worked on for a while and I’d found it challenging to find ways to improve it; however, Mr Sholtez brought an entirely new light to it. He really zoomed in on the meaning behind the lyrics and how an audience might interpret them. It was overall a great day to hear and support works by other students from all Year Levels, and wonderful to have the amazing opportunity to work with someone as accomplished as Mr Mark Sholtez. We sincerely thank the P&F Assocation, who provided funding that made this day possible. Charlotte Parsonage (12G)
