LAB REPORT: THE SCIENCES AT GIRLS GRAMMAR

MATERIALS AND METHOD Junior Science is where our science journey begins. However, the Junior Sciences are not limited to just fundamental knowledge, but the intriguing lab skills and real-world applications that will guide us through to our results in Senior studies. From the very first time we light a Bunsen burner, to working with bacteria, students establish the scientific methods that will lead them into later years. In the Junior Sciences, students investigate many areas of science including Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Ecology, and even Astronomy, using materials such as Stile and their activity booklets. The Dorothy Hill Observatory assists students in their Astronomy studies as they learn how to take astronomical images of the stars and nebulas of their choice.

ABSTRACT For all who venture into the Science block, the sight of technicolour Bunsen burner flames, glowing bacterial colonies, or students reloading projectile launchers is bound to spur curiosity. The sciences are truly irresistible to many here at BGGS, so we were led to wonder: just what is it that makes science so special?
