RESULTS After our immersive exploration of different aspects of Science, we gather the data from what we have learned and analyse it to guide us to what we want to pursue in the Senior Sciences. Students must narrow their focus to three different areas during their Senior studies: Biology; Chemistry; and Physics. In Senior Biology, we are given the opportunity to develop our understanding of the inner workings of the human body and the environment around us. Our studies surrounding biodiversity are enriched by excursions in Year 11 to rock pools and mangrove forests at Stradbroke Island and the Sunshine Coast. Meanwhile in Chemistry, we navigate not only intricate chemical reactions in the science labs but green energy and bioplastics to tackle our world’s current sustainability issues. Our modern approach to the syllabus also applies in the Physics classroom where we dive into the complexities of 21st century Physics which includes special relativity and quantum theory.

DISCUSSION As we put on our lab coats, it’s difficult to not notice the oddly transformative effect a Science classroom has on its students. No longer are we merely teenagers attending secondary school, but researchers, geneticists, and chemists. With a little persistence and curiosity, we too can find ourselves exploring the cutting edge, and communing with the greatest thinkers of all time. Johanna Conomos (12W), Madison Danalis (12W), and Jessica Wells (12E)
