YEAR 9 PROGRAM: JOURNEYS

M y time at Marrapatta this year was extremely enjoyable. With the theme of Journey , the Year 9 cohort was allowed to choose which program to participate in, with two options on offer: bike riding through Yabba Valley; and canoeing on the Noosa River. Although the two core classes that attended in Week 7, Term 2 were unable to experience these because of the floods, we were so grateful to the Marrapatta staff for altering the program to allow us to attend. My favourite part of the program was the memories and friendships that were made and strengthened. From canoeing to bike-riding to camping-out, the Year 9 program challenged us all both mentally and physically. Every girl was supported through their fears and as a group we encouraged each other to go that level higher on high ropes, to continue canoeing as hard as they could, and to pick themselves back up again when faced with challenges. Our time at Marrapatta allowed us to become independent. It was extremely rewarding to make a delicious meal with our group, put up our tents correctly every night, and successfully navigate our way home using compasses and maps. Overall, the Year 9 Outdoor Education Program was filled with laughter, bad jokes, teamwork, and responsibility. Katie Dore (9W)

My time at Marrapatta was a great experience. This year, I particularly enjoyed bike riding through the roads and down the hills, and it was a very different environment to bike in compared to the busy roads in Brisbane. While I enjoy the busy nature of school, going to Marrapatta was a great way to take my mind off school and have fun. Time at Marrapatta has taught me skills I would never otherwise have learned, helped me face challenges, and allowed me to talk to new people and make new friends. Jacqueline Loh (9E)—Yabba Valley Program

Marrapatta programs are an amazing opportunity for students to experience here at BGGS. The 2022 Year 9 Noosa River program was the most memorable and exciting one yet! The canoe journeys were so much fun and good for building teamwork skills. Cooking while camping is also a useful skill, and such a good opportunity to cook dinner and hang out with friends in a different setting. These experiences helped me build resilience when faced with tough conditions, such as heavy rain and wind during canoeing, and problem-solving opportunities. Ruby Robinson (9W)—Noosa River Program
