YEAR 7 PROGRAM: CONNECTIONS

T he Year 7 Outdoor Education Program was an amazing experience—one with challenges, but many exciting opportunities. Over the three days at Marrapatta, my class participated in activities such as the sugar glider, raft building, and exploring the beautiful outdoors. My favourite activity was the campout, which required us to pitch and sleep in tents, as well as make our own dinner using a Trangia. Even though these tasks were challenging, they were the highlights of the program for many of us in the group. The night out at the observatory, where we saw Saturn’s rings through one of the telescopes, was also incredible. I will never forget the experience of looking up at the breathtaking stars while huddled together with my classmates. By the end of the week, my class felt more like family, and when we left, we were closer, more independent, and more excited than ever to go back to Marrapatta. My highlight of the program was the sugar glider. I started off with a ‘rocket’ and finished with a ‘superhuman’ —it was so fun. I felt like I was flying from this experience. I gained lots of important life skills such as teamwork, independence, and cooking. At the start of the program, I was nervous about camping, cooking and home sickness, but it turned out the food was quite good, camping was a fun new experience and I rarely felt home sick. My time at Marrapatta was super fun and my favourite part was connecting with the animals. The chickens are so funny, and the alpacas are adorable. Coming to Marrapatta has taught me to appreciate the land around me a lot more and shown me how amazing the environment really is. Maggie Lynch (7H)

Green, blossoming plants. Adorable animals. Delicious food. From cleaning plates to sailing through the air on the sugar glider, the Marrapatta team managed to make every aspect of the program super fun!
