2022 School Magazine

BLUE DAYS T his year, we celebrated the amazing talent within the School with three joyous and festive Blue Days. Through the Blue Days, we embraced this year’s motto, Bloom with the Blue , which allowed us to showcase our inclusivity, growth, and spirit. Each day has a special theme, and we supported each other by dressing up, face painting, watching the talent shows, and enjoying delicious, blue-themed snacks. This year, our themes were Flower Power, Blues Fest, and Beddown PJ Party—with the last connecting with our 2022 School Charity, Beddown, which aims to repurpose empty spaces as pop-up accommodation for those who are vulnerable in our community. ART WALKS A rt Walks are a longstanding tradition at Brisbane Girls Grammar School. For art lovers in the School community, the weekend expeditions are a highlight of each term. Students, Grammar families and Grammar Women are welcome to attend. This year’s Art Walks provided attendees with an opportunity to experience some of the best exhibitions that Brisbane had to offer, including the 10th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, and Chiharu Shiota’s solo retrospective ‘The Soul Trembles’ at the Gallery of Modern Art. We were guided to explore these exhibitions through insightful presentations from BGGS’ Art Collections Manager, Mrs Thornquist, Art teachers, and Visual Art Captains. There is certainly something special about gallery-walking with others: discussing pieces; interpretations; and appreciating art installations in settings outside of the classroom. Be it to practise extending the visual analysis skills developed through the Visual Art curriculum, or for a Saturday morning study break, Art Walks are a fun and social way to immerse yourself in the arts at BGGS.
