BI-GRAMMAR
T he series of intense and extremely fun competitions between Brisbane Girls Grammar School and Brisbane Grammar School (BGS), known as Bi-Grammar, is all about cultivating Grammar spirit, teamwork, and school pride. Annual Bi-Grammar events have been a huge success in previous years, with the Grammar Schools each fighting for victory in matches of Touch, Netball, and several other activities. On Thursday 16 June, the Year 11 cohorts from BGGS and BGS came together to battle it out in a Bi-Grammar trivia afternoon in the lead-up to their Charity Social. There were 48 teams of eight (four girls and four boys), allocated at random to allow us to make new connections with the boys next door. We were treated to five trivia rounds that tested our general knowledge, or rather ‘general ignorance’ as Mr Fogarty named it, from iconic city skylines to movie scenes with invisible faces! During the intense competition, we harnessed not only our memory of the names of the original Wiggles or the seven dwarves, but the crucial skills of teamwork and friendship-building. Collaborating with the boys to unearth our most abstract trivia knowledge, come up with guessing strategies, negotiate through challenges, have a good laugh at our childhood memories, and celebrate small wins, was a simple yet effective way to strengthen our bonds. It was a truly valuable experience to come together with our Grammar brothers and we are very grateful for this opportunity. Thank you to Mr Fogarty, Ms Stark, and Ms Dabelstein for their amazing efforts to coordinate such an enjoyable event. Grace Paschkewitz (11O) and Jacqueline Trappett (11O)
BRISBANE GIRLS GRAMMAR SCHOOL 2022 | 043
A fter a two-year hiatus, the most anticipated event in the Year 12 calendar, Bi-Grammar, was finally able to be reintroduced. Bi Grammar is a three-part competition that pits our very own Seniors against their counterparts at Brisbane Grammar School. The three activities chosen by the student-led Committee for 2022 were Touch Football, a Battle of the Bands, and Netball. Even before the competition had formally begun, the spirit and enthusiasm from the girls was already unmatched thanks to our 2022 Bi-Grammar Hype Video. The video, featuring celebrity cameos from Jacob Elordi and Scotty Tweedie, fuelled our team’s desire to perform our best. The competition started in the early weeks of Term 3, where a game of Touch Football was played on the BGS oval. Despite our encouraging posters, bright face paint, and loud wall-cries, unfortunately this time the boys came out as victors. However, our senior musicians brought us back into the competition, winning the Battle of the Bands with their fantastic performance of Blinding Lights . The prolonged standing ovation after their performance was a clear indication of our landslide victory. Term 3 ended with the tie-breaking competition: Netball. Girls Grammar rounded up our most talented players for the all-important match against the Boys Grammar team. Ultimately, the combined advantages of playing on home ground and having a comprehensive knowledge of the rules, led to a sweet victory, with the girls sealing the 2022 Bi-Grammar Title with a 23-13 win. Bi-Grammar was a wonderful opportunity which allowed us to support our Grammar sisters as well as strengthen our relationships with our peers at BGS. We hope this tradition can continue for seniors in the future. Emma Blucher (12W) and Amber Lu (12E)
