Ms Euler Welsh and our Head Girls, Gigi Souyave-Murphy (12W) and Izzy Stephens (12M), led the celebrations with a cake cutting ceremony. We thoroughly enjoyed devouring the blue and white decorated cake, while taking a moment to reflect on the history behind our traditional school colours. Ashna Kanagarajah (12W)
(1998), spoke to us about her time at Girls Grammar and the meaningful lessons she’s learned along the way. ‘It was my time at Girls Grammar that sparked my love of learning’, she remarked, a love that still holds true in her successful career as a Marine Scientist. remarkable history of our school, and how it continues to thrive and flourish almost 150 years later. During the Foundation Day address, Grammar Woman, Dr Melissa Cowlishaw
MINDFULNESS M indfulness: the simple practice of bringing an accepting attitude to the present moment. In all stages of our lives, we face adversity, and mindfulness can be used as a tool to relocate our balance. More specifically, mindfulness practices allow us to become more aware of how we react. Over the past few decades, due to its increase in popularity, the practice of mindfulness has woven itself into people’s lives, from athletes in the Olympic stadium, to School students here at Brisbane Girls Grammar School. In the junior Year levels—7, 8, 9, and 10—the .b program was introduced, along with techniques such as palm tracing and counting. These practices are carried into senior Year levels and have proven to be very helpful, especially during times of assessment. Other mindfulness practices are also encouraged, such as origami and yoga. Through these practices, we can recognise the value of being present in the moment. Tung-Hi Ma (11H)
