TENNIS
A s the longest-running sport at Girls Grammar, and a founding sport in the QGSSSA competition, Tennis has a proud and extensive history at the School. This year has been another unforgettable season of Tennis. With the return of the famous morning teas and no COVID disruptions, this season saw old traditions return. Additionally, a new tennis skirt was introduced along with a new Open uniform—a change welcomed by the players. Across the numerous divisions, the eight BGGS Tennis teams were highly competitive and produced exceptional results. From school trainings to fixtures, every girl represented the royal blue with pride, and their great results are a testament to their passion for the sport. The girls’ dedication, enthusiasm, and overall camaraderie with other BGGS players, has made this season enjoyable for everyone involved, especially the new faces to the sport. Additionally, it has been wonderful to see how much the girls have improved—on and off the court—due to the much-appreciated effort of their coaches and our coordinator, Ms Martel. TOUCH FOOTBALL
142 | BRISBANE GIRLS GRAMMAR SCHOOL 2022
T he 2022 Touch Football season has been one of the most challenging, but was undeniably worthy of celebration. During this season, many trainings and games were cancelled due to extreme weather, including our first round of games against Somerville House which were abandoned due to the floods. Despite all this disruption, we must be thankful that we played at all. We all had the opportunity to go out on the field and give our best. As the season progressed, it was clear that the girls’ skills were improving, relationships between teammates were becoming stronger, and the commitment of each and every girl was commendable. We hope this effort and commitment continues for next year’s season.
With the floods and rain damaging our fields at Rangakarra, we had to find an alternative venue for trainings and games. This could not have been possible without our amazing coordinator, Mrs Nisbett. As Captains, we would like to thank Mrs Nisbett, on behalf of the Touch community, for doing so much work behind the scenes and organising the games, venues, and finding buses so we could play the sport we all love. Having both played Touch Football at BGGS since Year 7, it has been an honour to be Captains of a sport we are so passionate about and to lead such a talented and committed group of girls. Congratulations to all the girls for an amazing season and a special mention must go to the 8Bs and Senior Bs who were the
premiers of their respective divisions, along with the Open team who remained undefeated for the first time in many years. We know we are leaving the Touch Football squad in capable hands and wish the girls the best of luck for the 2023 season! Grace Hynes (12L) and Isabelle Pham (12O) CAPTAINS
