SOFTBALL

T he 2022 Swimming season got off to an unusual start with the first two weeks of the season spent in isolation. However, with the thought of Wednesday morning breakfasts and an incredible season ahead, the girls were eager to get back into the pool to kickstart training in Week 3. Although the annual Interhouse Swimming Carnival took on a new format this year, it was a great opportunity for all swimmers to race at the QG venue—even if we all missed the Interhouse spirit! A special congratulations must go to Charlotte Kennedy (10B) who took out the 50 m championship final and was also named Overall School Swimming Champion. T he 2022 Softball season started strongly in Term 1 with three teams competing in the senior QGSSSA competition. The junior players continued this energy and enthusiasm in Term 3 and 4, with teams entered in each of the five divisions in the junior QGSSSA competition. Unfortunately, due to extensive flooding early in the year, the senior competition ended early. Despite this, the Open and Senior Ai team both finished with premierships and the Senior Aii team finished sixth. The junior season showcased the up-and coming Softball talent for BGGS, and the afternoon fixtures were filled with cheer, spirit,

and plenty of home runs. All teams (9A, 8A, 7A, Junior B and Junior C) achieved fantastic results. Every training session and fixture—for both the junior and senior seasons—was overflowing with energy. We are so thankful for all the players who helped keep the competitive atmosphere going throughout the year. We sincerely thank our fantastic coaches who helped keep the BGGS Softball vision alive for 2022. We extend our gratitude to our amazing coordinator, Mrs Williamson, and the Director of Sport, Ms Duffy, for all of their support this year. Ellen Dwyer (11L) and Amreen Kahlon (11B) CAPTAINS

SWIMMING

The unprecedented events of the year meant that QGSSSA Swimming was pushed back to 16 March, meaning that spectators were able to travel to Chandler to support the girls. There’s no doubt that BGGS was the loudest and most spirited School on the night, and the energy radiating from the supporters lifted the girls to perform personal bests. BGGS came a well-earned sixth place, with podium finishes for the 15 and 16 years age groups that placed second and third respectively. This season would not have been possible without the dedication and encouragement from our coordinator, Ms Nunan, and incredible team of coaches, led by Suki and Matt, who despite the uncertainty of the season, kept the Grammar Spirit high.
