VOLLEYBALL
T he 2022 BGGS Volleyball season saw many hard-fought matches across all divisions, including well-deserved victories against competitive schools. As Captains, our main goal for the season was to foster spirit and support for teammates. All volleyballers took this on board from the first round of matches, which has been evident through the fantastic results achieved across the whole Volleyball program. The 2022 BGGS Volleyball preseason featured the Year 7 ‘Come and Try’ Volleyball event, an annual initiative that introduces various Volleyball skills to Year 7 students before the commencement of trials in Term 2. Additionally, ‘Social Volleyball’ was offered to students in Years 7 to 9 throughout Term 2. This unique development opportunity enabled students to practise skills with their friends during lunchtime, under the guidance of coaches and senior players. These initiatives were a great success in 2022, with record numbers of students at trials for our QGSSSA season. Players’ efforts during the preseason training period paid off from the first fixture, with teams earning victories against challenging opponents. Some of the season highlights included nail biting games for the Open team against St Peter’s Lutheran College and Moreton Bay College. These matches exemplified the dedication and teamwork that is so valued in our Volleyball program. W ater Polo is one of the most popular sports at Girls Grammar, with just under 300 girls entered in teams from U12s to U18s. It is amazing to see such enthusiasm for the sport that we both love. Water Polo provides us with a fun and healthy channel for our competitiveness, and each session drives us to improve our skills and become better players. One of our main goals for this year’s season was to promote a supportive sense of community between teams, and to encourage girls to support one another both in and out of the pool. We are so proud of the girls for their eagerness to make this happen. A special mention must go to the 16Bs and 15C Sapphires who won their respective grand finals, as well as all the girls who competed in the 2022 State Titles and Australian Youth Water Polo Championships. Thank you to Ms Rippon, who has championed the Water Polo program this year and ensured every girl feels supported and encouraged. As Captains, we have been honoured to represent Grammar Water Polo this year and cannot wait to see what the future holds for the program. Kate McDonnell (12H) and Jessica Taylor (12M) CAPTAINS
In the QGSSSA Volleyball competition, eight of the 11 teams placed in the top three of their respective divisions, and the 9B team secured their premiership. These excellent results would not have been achieved without Volleyball Coordinator, Mrs Williamson’s, continual support of the Volleyball program at BGGS, as well as the efforts of players and coaches over the course of the season. Congratulations to all Volleyball players on your achievements this year. Lara Hadzivukovic (12H) and Eden Thomas (12H) CAPTAINS
