CRICKET

T his year, all four teams in the BGGS Cricket squad played some incredible matches and demonstrated fantastic displays of skill, spirit, and teamwork. We are proud of all our players and are so grateful to them for ensuring this season was an unforgettable one. It was a pleasure to see the special bonds and friendships that formed within our mixed Year level teams, strengthened by the support given to one another on the sidelines, the pitch, or at school.

Being an outdoor sport, the wet weather and flooding earlier this year proved quite a challenge for Cricket in 2022. Despite this, the season still yielded some impressive results, with the Open team tying in second place overall, the 1As placing third, and the 1Bs placing fifth. The 2B team in particular must be commended for placing sixth overall, especially as a predominantly Year 7 team with many players new to the sport. Congratulations to this year’s winner of the Cricket Encouragement Award, Deepika Bogahawatta (8W). A massive thank you must go to our coaches, Mr Moffat, Mr Larkin, Mr Bowden, and Jack. Of course, this season would not have been possible without our wonderful coordinator, Ms Levett. Thank you for working tirelessly to ensure that we had the best possible season, particularly as the last one for our Year 12 players. It has been a joy to lead the squad this year, and we have no doubt

CROSS COUNTRY

T he 2022 Cross Country season was an exciting one. The interruptions caused by COVID-19 and the floods didn't stop our BGGS team. The season comprised of many toastie breakfasts, meets, and crazy sock or outfit days, which brought the team closer together. Despite the long-awaited Cross Country camp being cancelled due to COVID restrictions, we were still lucky enough to have holiday training and even a trip to the Bli Bli Aqua Park. With one meet before the Term 1 holidays, and four meets afterwards, we were then told that the QG competition was postponed. Luckily, a new date was set, but on an unfamiliar course at John Paul College. The extension of two weeks until the new QG date on 4 June made our team stronger, faster, and more united. On the day, we achieved an amazing and well-deserved overall second place.

This season wouldn't have been possible without our amazing coaches; thank you for inspiring us, and thank you for helping us grow as individuals and as a team. Additionally, we would love to thank Mrs McCarthy, the Coordinator of Cross Country, because her constant organising and effort behind the scenes does not go unnoticed. We are beyond proud of the effort and determination each and every girl put into this season and are extremely happy with the outcome. We are so grateful to be given this opportunity to lead the team and we wish the 2023 Captains and team the best of luck! Millie Hunt (12O) and Poppy Gouldson (12M) CAPTAINS
