ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS
T he 2022 Artistic Gymnastics season was a fantastic one, with our girls persisting through the disruptions thrown our way. Training was disrupted by the surge of COVID-19 cases and severe flooding events, making our preparation challenging. Despite this, the girls did their very best on the day showing great resilience and determination.
Eleven teams, including an impressive number of Year 7 girls, represented the School at the QGSSSA competition. Girls Grammar experienced great success, with the D(ii) team walking away with a hard earned premiership, and our A(i), C, D(i), Year 7(i), and 7(iii) teams all placing in the top three of their respective divisions. A further special mention must go to the following girls who placed first overall for their respective apparatuses: Miranda Zhang (7M) placed first on Bars and Beam; Natasha Babnik (8B) in D(ii) placed first on Bars and Floor; Pippa Castles (8B) in D (ii) placed first on Vault; Anna Goslin (8H) in D(ii) placed first on Bars; and Jemima Faint (10M) in A(i) placed first on Vault. It was a great pleasure to be Captains to such a hardworking and talented group of girls. A very special thanks must also go to our amazing coordinator, Mrs McIntosh, for her constant support and guidance throughout the season. Finally, we would like to congratulate all team members for persevering throughout Terms 4 and 1 and competing to the best of their abilities on the day. BRISBANE GIRLS GRAMMAR SCHOOL 2022 | 135
T hroughout Terms 2 and 3, every girl involved in the 2022 Athletics season gave their all, either at training sessions, during the lead up meets, or at the QGSSSA Athletics competition. The drive, dedication, and persistence that was on display by Grammar girls was unmatched by any other school, and this enthusiasm resulted in a significant improvement in the number of points earned by the School in comparison to last year's result.
Congratulations to the following girls for placing first in their respective events: Atara Wickramasekera (7E); Zoe McElwaine (9G); Shanaya Vyas (9R); and Chiamaka Ekeocha (11W), and a special congratulations to Carissa Graham (9W) who won two of her events. This incredible season could not have been achieved without the School’s wonderful team of coaches and our Head Coach, Mr Paul Pearce. We are grateful for the wisdom, expertise, and experience they provided to our athletics squad. Finally, we thank our Athletics Coordinator, Mr Tim Franklin, for his organisation and commitment.
