HIGHER, FURTHER, FASTER: HOW SPORT BUILDS

COMMUNITY AT GIRLS GRAMMAR

I n 2022, QGSSSA welcomed Senior Australian Football to the QGSSSA calendar for the first time in the Association's history. Although the season was cut short due to flooding, the time spent with my team will be remembered and cherished forever. We can not thank our BGGS staff and coaches enough, including Ms Duffy, Ms Stark, Mr Franklin, and Mr Beattie. We appreciate their time and effort at our games and training, and for assisting us to complete an extraordinarily successful season. U ncertainty has become the ‘norm’ in recent years, but despite this, the BGGS sports community gave it their all in 2022, and we couldn’t be prouder. The girls embraced the motto this year, Let the blue drive you . Our motto was created to reflect the Grammar Spirt, and to inspire girls to participate and give sport a go, as well as to embody the community’s support for one another. This strong Grammar support was reflected at QGSSSA Swimming, where our supporters cheered their Grammar sisters, as well as two multi-class athletes from other schools, in the first ever multi-class event within QGSSSA. This year was filled with remarkable achievements from all girls, with multiple successes from a range of teams. We are extremely fortunate for all the new and exciting sports and events that were introduced this year and are eager to see how sport can be more inclusive in the future. For the first time, a Reconciliation Round was included in the autumn fixtures round, where the community showed their respect with an Acknowledgement of Country delivered by a BGGS player representative. Senior Australian Football was also introduced at the beginning of this year, and we commend those girls who participated as they made the season a massive success, building a future path for other girls.

We would like to extend a special thanks to Ms Duffy for her incredible dedication, which contributed to the BGGS sporting year being one to celebrate. We are extremely grateful to the coordinators and coaches for their support and encouragement across every BGGS sport. Remember, don’t think twice—if you would like to get involved, go for it. Your time at BGGS is short, so make the most of it. Alice Barker (12R) and Charlotte Wagland (12O) SPORTS CAPTAINS
