SENIOR DRAMA PRODUCTION

T his year’s Senior Drama Production presented Abigail’s Coven , written by Peter Cox and Fred Goldsworthy. Directed by the amazing Mr Dervish-Ali, a cast of Year 11 and 12 girls, and two BGS students, took the Gehrmann Theatre back to the fear and hysteria of 1692 Salem. After a group of girls are caught chanting in the forest, the town starts to talk of witchcraft. Fearing for their lives, Abigail Williams, portrayed by Tayla Wakefield (11W), convinces the girls to start accusing others and is consumed with guilt about what follows. The haunting candle-lit forest and wooden set provided the backdrop for a performance of Realism interjected with moments of Expressionism. We still managed to bring the paranoia, accusations and poppets to life despite the interruptions of floods and cast members in isolation. We were fortunate to have one half of the writing duo, Peter Cox, visit us on our Friday night performance to see our interpretation and answer some of our questions about the writing process. Made possible by our wonderful team of creatives: Ms Hall (Sound Designer); Mr Gordon (Lighting Designer); Mr Duncan (Production Technician); and Stage Manager, Sophie Coleman (11M). This production was definitely an incredible experience we will never forget. Kyla Johnston (12G) 110 | BRISBANE GIRLS GRAMMAR SCHOOL 2022
