YEAR 9 AND 10 DRAMA PRODUCTION

T his year, an ensemble of 13 performed in the Year 9 and 10 Drama Production, This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries and This Girl Does Nothing , written by Finegan Kruckemeyer. ‘This Girl’ explores themes of individuality, community, and self-acceptance through the journey of three sisters. As we delved into the beautiful story through our dedicated rehearsal process, we all seemed to have learned something from each of the sisters. First, there’s Albienne, the eldest. She shows bravery and leadership when people need her most, and her love of fighting for what’s right (and eating cake), while overcoming her own insecurities of the unfair world of life and death surrounding her. The key thing that stood out most playing Albienne was her values of putting others first when they need you most, paired with her outgoing character that loves the outdoors. She taught us to always ground ourselves when overwhelmed with something we can’t control and to always make time to do the things you love—in her instance, baking! Grace Agnew (10L) Then … Beatrix, the middle sister. She decides to follow the sun, hoping it would bring her to her papa. Channelling her creativity and wonder, Beatrix grows to be an inquisitive and kind person and returns to what is most important to her; family. I feel that I can relate to Beatrix, as she finds her family extremely important in her life, and even though she wants to explore the world, eventually she wants to return to her family when her adventure is over. I wish to travel and explore everything the world has to offer one day, but after I do, I want to return to my family, as they are such a huge part of my life. Caitlin Small (10R)

Carmen was our final inspiration. As the youngest, Carmen struggles with responsibility and finding her voice. Throughout the play, she learns to take control and break free from her burdens. As a result, she finds love and peace in her family. The major takeaway from Carmen’s story is that in order to help others, you need to help yourself. Carmen’s nurturing, loving personality and values meant that people took advantage of her but she learned how to put herself first while still caring for other people. Carmen also taught us that while change can be scary, it isn’t necessarily a bad thing. When performing as Carmen, I made sure to embrace Carmen’s mother-like attitude and gentle energy. Georgie Falting (10B)

The production team worked long and hard to put together this play, alongside our kind and supportive guest director, Ms Hall. We would like to express our gratitude for Mr Dervish Ali and Mrs Riveros for all their help and a huge congratulations and thanks to the whole cast and crew.
