DRAMA
YEAR 7 AND 8 DRAMA PRODUCTION
A cross Term 2 and 3, Year 7 and 8 students were given the opportunity to participate in the Year 7 and 8 Drama Production of Charlotte’s Web . We were fortunate enough to be cast as Wilbur and Charlotte, along with our wonderful cast and we are grateful for the experience. Charlotte’s Web follows the story of naive pig, Wilbur, as she learns her days are numbered with only the friendship of Charlotte, the barn spider, to help save her life. The storyline connected to both of us, as going into the production we did not know each other. However, just like Charlotte and Wilbur, we created a strong bond together through the production and created special memories that we will never forget. One of our highlights throughout the rehearsal and performance stages was building relationships with girls over both Year levels. As we are all passionate about drama and performing, we grew very close as a cast. We were lucky enough to be directed by Miss Folland, and we thank her for all her hard work in putting together this production. Mr Dervish-Ali, Miss Hall, Mr Howell and Mr Cameron Quagliotto, and our Backstage Manager, Sophie Coleman (11M), were also key contributors in making sure everything ran smoothly behind the scenes. We are grateful for the many hours they put in, which was evident in the performances, and everything ran extremely efficiently to a sold-out crowd. It really was Some Show! THE DRAMA STUDIO
D rama Studio has hosted a variety of afternoons for an hour and a half, my peers and I have been able to explore types of physical theatre, the writing and performance of monologues, and how small-scale productions can be created by a group. In the first Semester, we were supported by The Good Room, an award-winning Brisbane theatre company, to create our own production titled History May Repeat , which was a study of the world’s past, present, and possible future. This production was devised entirely by students. Later in the year, Drama Studio split into three streams and my peers and I had the choice to develop along our own paths in improvisation, script work, or musical theatre. Each stream was respectively hosted by Miss Wadley, Ms Hall, and Ms Penman and Ms Lindsay, who have supported and run Drama Studio with the skill-building activities this year, in both large and small groups. On Thursday
D rama Studio is amazing. I have learned so much and created so many things during the program all without expectation or pressure that sometimes accompanies auditioned productions. The challenges presented by COVID meant it was difficult to make meaningful connections—joining Drama Studio helped me meet like-minded people, and even later, my best friend. I also got to meet the Drama teachers and learn all about Drama from my older peers. On another note, I think the most interesting thing I have done in Drama Studio was a radio play. It was so cool to test voice and props to make a dynamic play. I remember running around from room to room, filling in for certain characters whose actors were away. It was chaotic and messy, but so fun and new at the same time. Drama Studio has shown me that no two people are the same. All the prompts, warm-ups, shows and workshops we do, barely anyone has the same idea about anything. It is such an open, free, and spontaneous environment for everyone, and it holds a very special place in my heart. Remy Kalinin (8H)
