DRAMA

T his year, Curriculum Drama offered many wonderful learning opportunities through its vibrant and dynamic programming across Years 7 to 12. A highlight was working with guest artists alongside our amazing teachers, as we were exposed to industry practice and were pushed to move out of our comfort zones. Noa Rotem trained Year 10 students in physical theatre, Year 7 girls were mentored by well-known Brisbane actor, Thomas Larkin, and Year 8 students enjoyed mask workshops to foster physical character skills. Remote learning presented challenges for drama students as one of our most practical and collaborative subjects had to adjust to online delivery. Year 9 girls really enjoyed their scriptwriting unit as they were provided with an opportunity to find fresh inspiration and fun writing activities around the house. Year 10 students too adapted well as Zoom lessons enabled interesting conversations and rich discussions as we unpacked the British migration scheme, to build

understanding of the historical contexts of their play text, Children of the Black Skirt . Sketching set designs was also a great way for us to build our understanding of staging while working remotely. The Year 12 Drama cohort was particularly challenged through remote learning but fortunately, their performance assessment had just been completed before we commenced learning from home. The Year 12 girls showed tremendous resilience in the face of adversity and endeavoured to take the new way of learning as an opportunity to grow. The girls made the most of the new world they lived in while showing continual support for one another. Once the senior girls were back in the classroom there was an immense appreciation for one another, and the senior drama girls had never been so united. So, despite the challenges we have faced this year, the drama spirit and tenacity has shone through! Jessica Mangos (12G) and Lara Triscott (12H)
