FOOTBALL
E ven though the season did not go to plan there were plenty of highlights for BGGS Football in 2020. In early March, both Football Captains, along with our Junior players were invited to attend a W-League match between the Brisbane Women’s Roar and the Women’s Canberra United teams. The Junior girls were given the opportunity to walk out on to the field and meet with the players from both teams, as well as play at half time on the main field. During the modified season, the Open team was able to play two games and were undefeated. Both the Intermediate and Junior A teams only played one match each, but were very successful. Although the Senior A and Junior B teams missed out on playing a game, their attendance and enthusiasm at training was admirable. We wish the 2021 BGGS Footballers all the best for next season. HOCKEY
T his year we had five BGGS Hockey teams—two junior teams and three senior teams—proudly represent the School. Each Wednesday afternoon girls trained at Rangakarra, where we began each session with a full squad warm-up. During these sessions we were encouraged to interact outside of our teams and with players from all Year levels to build unity within the squad. Our goals for the 2020 squad centred on unity and spirit. Although spectators were not able to attend all games due to COVID-19, the motivation at training was strong and the BGGS spirit was alive and well. Despite not being recognised as an official competition this year, the commitment and passion that hockey girls have had for their sport
was evident in the results achieved. The Opens placed fourth, Senior A placed first, Junior A placed second, Junior B placed second, and Senior A II participated in a social season with training and games. Congratulations to Ashley Foster-McGinn (8B), Ellie Kendall (8G) and Olivia O’Brien (11R) on being selected in the Under 19 Metropolitan North Hockey Team. Overall, BGGS enjoyed a very spirited and enthusiastic season of Hockey. It has been a pleasure to captain such a fun and loving cohort. Thank you to Mr McGarry for the time and effort he committed to Hockey this year. Sienna Graham (12W) and Amelia Perrin (12H) CAPTAINS
