BASKETBALL
A s with most sports in 2020, Basketball had its fair share of ups and downs due to COVID-19 restrictions. After two Friday night fixtures, where BGGS played St Hilda’s School and St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School, our season was cut short due to COVID-19. While it was disappointing, we still had many highlights. These included the pancake breakfast to kick off the season and the senior autumn fixtures break up, where we presented graduating Year 12s with their water bottles. We feel privileged to have played Basketball at BGGS and have gained friendships, skills, and experiences as a result. The wonderful thing about leadership here at BGGS is that girls with spirit and passion for their sport can be elected as captains even if they aren’t the most skilled players. Basketball has been a supportive, fun and incredibly worthwhile part of our school lives and we will dearly miss the BGGS teams when we graduate. Sarah Pennefather (12R) and Saee Sane (12O) CAPTAINS
CRICKET
T he 2020 Cricket season, although shorter than previous years, was no less enjoyable or eventful. With four teams competing across three divisions, we had a blast and the squad played some exciting cricket. As we progressed through the season we enjoyed our wins and learned from some hard-fought defeats. Pink Stumps Day was a hit and together we raised $1809 for the McGrath Foundation (a record figure for the School!). Limited edition badges and ribbons were sold and exclusive memorabilia, including a rare ‘Baggy Green Cap’ signed by a host of former Australian players were auctioned off at the event. We have loved seeing everyone develop as cricketers throughout the season and standout players have emerged in every team. The 1A team dominated in their division and the young Open team played to a standard that belied their youth. Cricket is a sport where teams are put together based on skill rather than age group and we feel this is one of the things that makes it so special. Having played cricket every season from Year 7 through to Year 12 we have been able to forge friendships with people older and younger—all of us sharing our love for the sport. We have enjoyed being Cricket Captains this season
and could not have asked for a better squad. Grace Crilly (12E) and Bridget Morton (12B) CAPTAINS
