QUEENSLAND SPORTSWOMAN OF THE YEAR 1985 KATRINA (KATIE) McADAM

Katie attended the Brisbane Girls' Grammar School from 1977 to 1981. During her five years, she represented the school in Water Polo, Netba ll , Swimming, Ballgames and Athletics. Katie was a member of the Premier ''A:' Grade Netball team in 1981 , a premiership which had eluded Grammar for nine years, and severa l successful Water Polo teams. Her representative honours began ear ly in her schoo l Water Polo career, culm inating in Queensland representation in the Open team in 1981 . Her Australian representation began in 1982 and, no doubt, climaxed at the F.I.N.A. World Cup in Los Angles, july 1984, where Australia won its first gold medal defeating Canada, the United States, New Zealand and Holland. At these championships, Katie was named the best goalk,eeper in the series, and the best goalkeeper in the world, by a panel of international judges. It is gratify ing to see an athlete, introduced to a sport at schoolgirl leve l and nurtured within her school club, achieve such great recognition and success. The current Water Polo girls of Grammar congratu late Katie arid are appreciative of such an impressive role model. 77
