YEAR 8 CAMP Year 8 camp was full of fun and excitement from the time we piled on the bus, until we tumbled exhausted, back onto the school footpath. We spent the first day travelling to Baralonga, filling in worksheets on the bus. Our first break was when we stopped off at Caloundra for morning tea and those who dared, went for a swim . We continued on and had lunch in a park at Noosa and arrived at the camp in the late afternoon. We spent time that evening looking at slides of Gympie. On Tuesday they let us loose in Mary St, to fill in history worksheets. Around lunchtime, we went to a mining museum . We arrived back some time in the afternoon and were allowed time to explore. After dinner, we had a mock Olympics, which we won! We filled in Wednesday morning by finishing our Geology sheets. Everybody gave three loud cheers when they realised there would be no more work. That afternoon, we finally met our horses, to the joy of some people and the fear of others. On Thursday, half the group walked and the other half rode to a hut where we were to stay. At lunch-time we stopped at a water pool and some crazy people swam across the pool and scrambled out the other side. They went blue and their teeth wouldn't stop chattering. We also had our first encounter with leeches. After a camp fire and toasted marshmallows, we went to bed, trying not to squash friends in the rather small space we had to sleep in. Hurrying back on Friday, we just managed to beat the rain. We ate lunch and tidied up the huts. The buses came at about one o'clock and we said our last goodbyes to Baralonga. Three or so hours later the buses arrived back at school. Everyone gave a big sigh. We had managed to live through our first camp. Despite the worksheets and being a bit nervous about being on a horse for the first time, most of us enjoyed the camp and hope next year's 8's have as good a time as we djd .
