1985 School Magazine
HEAD BOARDER'S REPORT This year started off on the wrong foot with the storm making a rather big mess of the Boarding House, but despite the coming and going of the workmen and the consistently leaking roof, we boarders have managed very well. The 9th of March saw the full support of the Boarding House at the G.P.S. swimming and that night a concert was held at which many talents were revealed. The 11th May saw us putting on our dancing shoes and heading to the halls of B.G.S. for an active night of bopping to the music. The following weekend a large number of boarders participated in the ball games carnival at St Hilda's, proving again that boarders often form the backbone of many groups. On the 20th July, a bunch of beauties participated in the annual Miss Boarding House competition. Judges included four members of staff, plus four B.G.S. Year 12's and escorts, much to the girls' delight and embarrassment. Emerging from the stiff competition our radiant queen for the year is Bridget Sherrard and the reigning princess, Bridget Kinnear. On the 10th August, we held our first dance for a number of years with Churchie. It was a great success and I extend my thanks to Caroline Tournour and other Year 12's who helped with the music and made the night as successful as it was. In May, Year 11's were invited to a night with Marist Brothers at "Sybil's", which was very successful and a follow-up invitation was received for another on the 30th July, this time at "Images". A video night with B.G.S. Grade 8's (plus a few extras) on the 1st of June proved a great success.
"THE EVOLUTION" Due to the success of " The Creation" in last year's Boarders' Magazine, we decided to repeat the Committee Report and in doing so hope "The Evolution" will cause a tradition to be established. After forming the five-member committee, the whole boarding house set about raising money to fund the most exciting section of the whole magazine. Our first effort was a raffle with a prize of $50 Sportsgi rl voucher, but we later found that the demand of toffee apples and hot chips far surpassed that for raffle tickets! It was also show I) that the day girls had to eat their words and take back the vicious rumours about boarders' appetites, in view of the amount of food they consumed! Lastly, we all enjoyed a highly successful dance with Churchie, which also brought in money. At the beginning there was silence and much head- scratching, until we found out how close the deadline really was! Then the boarding house was set abuzz with the sounds of clicking cameras followed by the screams from the embarrassed victims! Our thanks must go to all the dedicated magazine representatives, the mistresses, the culinary concocters in the kitchen and everyone in the whole boarding house for their continued support and enthusiasm. Finally, the purpose of this year's boarders' supplement is to show what boarding is really like, and to dispel any myths and mis-conceptions that may exist! The Boarders' Magazine Committee for 1985 consisted of: YEAR 8 - Wendy Levy and Bridget Kinnear. YEAR 9 - Anna Kinnear and Emmy Buick. YEAR 10 - Sarah Willmett and Sheri Keys.
YEAR 11 - Eva Shrapnel and Jodi Eden. YEAR 12 - Bridget Sherrard, Rachel Davies,
Lesley Adams, Melinda Fox, Sue Kehl, Fran Gordon , Vanessa Golden.
The boarders once again were out in force on School Day, with an original twist to Boarding House tours.
Many thanks to all who have managed very well through the hardships of the year. Thank you also to the kitchen staff for their friendship and constant flow of "yummies"! Good luck to all in the future.
