Ann Cutting contests a jump ball BASKETBALL REPORT

Basketball is again one of the most popular sports played at Grammar. We have approximately 60 girls in a total of six teams. Coaches number five, of which three are all past pupils. The 18A currently have as co-coac h, Bronwyn Marshall, a very experienced player, having competed in LosAngeles Olympic Games last year and it is a great boost for the club to have the use of her ex pert knowledge. First season was very successfu I, even though only one team managed to reach the Grand Final. The 18A went down fighting to a very experienced Lang Park team. The 18B, though disadvantaged with havi ng no regular coach, managed a good and well-played fifth position, just missing out on the semi-finals. The 16A came a hard-fought third, after losing a close quarter-final. The 16B(i) and (ii) teams both went well, coming fourth and fifth respectively, and the Under-14's have improved consistently in their first year to come fifth. The school team travelled to Rockhampton on the first week of the end of semester holidays, to compete in the Queensland Secondary Schools Basketball Championship. We had two days of solid training with Bullets member Cal Brutan, before leaving. Over the weekend, we played a total of six games. We defeated Blackwater 31-21, Kulua Park 21-19 and were beaten by last year's winners Mirani 25-9, thi s years Champions, Buderim 63-32, and The Gap 17-13 . In the firnals we were nar rowly defeated by old rivals, Pittsworth 35-33, to come an overall sixth placing out of 13 teams.

U-14 Basketball 1985

Mrs Harvey-Short, who accompanied us as manageress, was a great help and was always there to give us that encouraging boost and for that, we extend our deepest thanks. The second season has started off in excellent form, with all teams having lost only one game each, bar the Under-16A and Under-18A, who are undefeated . Our thanks to coaches, Mr Barry Warden for his organisation and enthusiasm, Bronwyn Marshall, Bridget johnson, Belinda Morris, Dorothy Mohun and Mr Rayner and to Mrs Harvey-Short, for their help and encouragement throughout the year. Good luck and best wishes to all current and future players.
