Rock Climbing This year we have had another enthusiastic group of climbers from all year and skill levels. The Year 85 eagerly encountered each of the walls for the first time with an Impressive determination, while returning climbers strived to achieve a personal best or a different route on previously conquered walls Throughout the year students proved they were willing to try any new challenge ranging from climbing blindfolded, trying the 'all naturals' route, prusiking or even lust reaching a height to swing off the walls I On Open Day we were besieged by countless Year 75 and younger future students as they tested out their skills on the wall. Their excitement and determination promises another great group of climbers for future years. Over the past five years Rock Climbing has been not only a physical challenge, but a great way to have a break from school work and spend time with friends, especially in our senior years. it 15 definitely something which has been an essential part of ourschool life. , I Chelsea Edmonds 02L), Rachelle Todd (12R), Vi6fori A all (120), ; . I I; Tess M^Arthtrr-Dowty 41^R) . , . RO Ing' I " . 109 ' "' " '1 " - r ' This year, every girl in the Rowing'team. the 'G-Crew' of 2011, stepped up to 'Shock and Oar' in eve hing they did. Training on the Brisbane River began in Term 11 and the following holidays ,. \ with tough trials for all the r-wers, and coxes. The first regatta in Term 111 was a promising start for all crews. Despite their limited racing experience, the younger grades performed outstandingly in the lead up regattas and achieved many top three places. The Head of the River was a wet and windy day that tested all the rowers; however everyone attacked their races with resolve and put in their best efforts. Madeline Piper (11 H) and the Year 81st Quad performed particularly well both achieving third place Despite their disappointment at the Head of the River the Year 9 2nd Quad performed outstandingly throughout the regatta season with three first places and received the Encouragement Award At the Queensland State Championships in Rockhampton, rowers from every grade raced well with all crews reaching the final for their crew event. The Year 81 st quad placed a close fourth in Queensland. Made!ine Piper (11H) and Alexandra Theile (12G) represented the Brisbane Region in the Open Quad achieving a bronze medal, and Emma Kelly (10R) and Chloe Davison (100 members of the U16 Brisbane Quad, raced to win, becoming the 2011 Queensland State Champions We hope that every girl persists with improving her rowing with passion and determination in the coming seasons ^ . . , ^ ~ . .
