we have left school, and many girls feel a desire to travel at some stage, if not immediately after their schooling. Travelling, seeing new places and meeting new people, is a wonderful experience and may be enjoyed to the fullest when we are young. Our minds are susceptible to new ideas; we are eager to have new, exciting experiences and meet different kinds of people. Our lives have not fallen into a set, day-to-day pattern through long years, so that we can easily adapt to different situations and surroundings and enjoy the change. After visiting other countries and learning to know their inhabitants, our horizons of thouhgt are widened, and we realize that not only people like our- selves in cities like Brisbane constitute civilization. Having met and befriended numbers of people from many walks of life, we learn to understand human nature better, and fresh ideas and different concepts 'of life are born in our minds. Places mentioned in books now become real and have meaning. · Happy memories are stored to give pleasure in reminiscing for years to come. Moreover, after seeing how some human beings are forced to live, we can appreciate fully our own families and friends and our opportunities for education and later careers.
