Many new books have been added this year. Unfortunately, however, although our Library is well above . the average in Queensland, we still only spend about half the amount per student recommended by the Library Association of Australia on new books. Let us hope that in future years, this situation may be remedied. . We are again indebted to the Eook Binding Club for their excellent and constant service. Thanks are also due to Library Representatives who work very hard to keep the Library running smoothly. The teams express their sincere gratitude and thanks to Mrs. Winter and Miss Hardcastle who devoted much of their time to train the teams and who made both days very enjoyable. We hope that next year will prove just as successful. - M.T. LIBRARY NOTES A School Library's main objectives should include being a source of books and other materials which will support and en- rich the teaching-learning programme in the School; providing guidance for pupils in the use of books and other materials for research purposes; encouraging and providing facilities for inde- pendent learning and self-propelled study both within the sylla- bus and beyond it; and assisting pupils to enjoy reading experi- ences and to read with discrimination and to make profitable use of their leisure time. It is with some pride that we say that our Beanland Memorial Library fulfils these objectives admirably, thanks to the expert guidance of our librarian, Mrs. Needham. Good use has been made of the library this year. Girls are realizing the importance of the Library as an integral part of the School and not as an accessory-truly as the laboratory for all subjects. 38
