ATHLETICS NOTES Much · hard training in Athletics and Ball Games certainly paid dividends this year. The School Athletics team was able to obtain second place in the Inter-School Athletics Carnival on the 29th July, a standard to be expected from: a school of this size. Our congratulations go to the Brisbane State High School team for its outstanding achievement in winning all three Cqps and the Aggregate Cup for the first time. The last time all Cups had been won by the same school was in 1958 when Brisbane Girls Grammar School won all three Cups. The team would like to thank Mr. and Mrs . Winter, Miss Hardcastle and Mrs. Yule for their enthusiasm throughout the season. The early morning training sessions at Downey Park were certainly justified. The Inter-House Athletics Carnival which followed the Inter-School Carnival this year was extremely enjoyable. Mrs . Winter's and Miss Hardcastle's efficient organization added greatly to the enjoyment of the afterno9n. The spirit and co- operation of the · five Houses was high. Lilley House won, Woolcock House winning the Relay Cup. The highest individual aggregate was shared by Valda Jury, Robyn Aydon and Barbara Jordan. One girl, it seems, continued her training-Susan Byth ob- tained a first place in the High Jump and third place in the Shot Putt, in the Queensland Schoolgirls' Athletics Championships at Downey Park. Perhaps with even more enthusiasm and hard training the team may be able to lead the "March Off" in 1967! -C.R.U. GYMNASTICS NOTES This term brought the second of our Inter-School and Inter- House Gymnastics competitions which were at a fairly high standard. It was pleasing to see so many girls competing in both the Inter-School and our own Inter-House competitions. All competitors helped to make both days very enjoyable for all spectators. Marks scored in the Inter-House competition were very close with England first, Gibson, Woolcock, Griffith and Lilley not far behind. The Inter-School competition held in our own gymnasium, proved a great success for our team who gained first place in the A Grade and second in the B Grade. Our congratulations go to Clayfield College who won the B Grade and our thanks to the other teams who provided such keen competition. 37
