Medea, and this joined the cast of Summer of the Seventeenth DolL She was married to Ray Lawler, the author of the play which is to be produced in London early in 1957, and both Jack- lyn and her husband will be leaving for England for the pro- duction. We must congratulate LOLA POWER on her appointment as Librarian of the C.S.I.R.O. in Melbourne. Lola has some of the highest librarian qualifications in Australia. She is also keenly interested in aviation and was employed by the Depart- ment of Civil Aviation, Brisbane, as librarian before her new appointment. We wish her every success. Once again AVIS WOOD has won success for her weaving. She was awarded the Florence Monod Memorial Prize at the Melbourne Show for the best exhibit in the home crafts section. MARY O'ROURKE-BROPHY is still overseas and we have heard that she has been tripping in Irelapd and also attended the Edinburgh FestivaL We are pleased to hear that DAPHNE WELCH has the honour to be chosen to play hockeY in the Australian Women's Hockey Team which did very well in the International Hockey Carnival held last May in Sydney, for the first time in Australia. The only other Old Girl who has attained a position in any Australian Women's Hockey Team is MRS. GWEN RISSON who went from Melbourne to Sydney for the CarnivaL JUDITH GREENE was the only woman representative for Queensland in the Inter-Varsity Debating team which did very well in the competition. DEATH We extend our deepest sympathy to the relatives and friends of Miss Violet Midson ·whose death occurred on 5th August, 1956. Miss Midson had many friends in many walks of life and her untiring work for Kindergarten and Playground Associations will be sadly missed. She was a member of the Women's His- torical Association and her work for St. George's Church of England Hostel during the war years will be remembered by all ex-servicemen who came in contact with her. ENGAGEMENTS, MARRIAGES AND BIRTHS It is particularly difficult to compile a complete record of these announcements and the Committee would appreciate all offers of news in this connection.
