Brisba:q.e Girls ' Grammar School Magazine December, 1956 ~~~~~~~~~~======================\ TENNIS CLUB NOTES We are verY sorry to have to report that the Tennis Club was not suffiently well patronised this year to enable it to carry on. From July play was suspended for the balance .of the year and it · is earnestly hoped that at the next Annual General. Meet- ing arrangements can be made to re-open t~e Club. It ~s v~ry disheartening to those who try to keep a social club of this kmd in existence, to find there are not sufficient girls interested to make it possible to function. We are deeply indebted to Mr_s. Sybil Elms and Miss Jennifer Jones for all they have done m the past for the Club. Mrs. Elms resigned as captain of the Old Girls' Tennis Team during the Year and we would like to pay a tribute to her untiring efforts over many years on behalf of the ~l? Girls' Tennis Team. .There are many members of the Assoc1at10n who are indebted to Mrs. Elms for their training as players. She was never too busy to give all the help she could to encourage tennis players and it is due ~o her efforts that the Old Girl~' Associa~ion has been undefeated m all the Q.G.G.S. Club Tenms ChampiOn- ships since their inauguration. Q.G.G.S. CLUB REPORT This Club with which the Old Girls' Association is affiliated has only been meeting on the third Tuesday of each month for a function in the Queensland Women's Electoral League Rooms, 2nd floor, City Building. The Club is looking for suitable rooms which are not too expensive, as all members miss the beautiful meals and somewhere to drop a parcel. Meetings have taken the form of card, games and film even- ings and on each occasion a small "Bring and Buy" table helped exp~nses. Supper was alwaYs served, each Old Girls' Association taking it in turn to be hostess . The final function for this year will be on Tuesday, 20th November, when the Club will be 10 years old and the enter- tainment for that evening is being kept secret but all members may bring one friend who has the qualifications for membership, that is, one who is a financial member of her own Old Girls' Association. All Grammar Club members wish Miss Crooks, the staff of the School, the O.G'.A. and Present Girls a very happy and prosperous New Year.

You will be able to see a sample of pottery made by MISS HELEN CAMPBELL at our next Old Girls' function, when a pair of book ends with the School Badge on them will be raffled for the Library Fund. When MRS. · McLUCAS had to resign as Vice-president of the Association owing to a move to Scots College, SydneY, the Committee farewelled her at supper at the Wickham Coffee Inn and presented her with a pencil. Mrs . McLucas would like Old Girls visiting Sydney, or residing there, to contact her at her new home . Three Old Girls visiting Scotland recently met by chance, when ANNETTE and BARBARA BIGGS met MARGARET PEEL. Margaret visited the Braemar Games and is now doing physiotherapy at Brompton Chest Hospital, London. This ap- pointment is seldom given to an overseas physiotherapist. We are very pleased to learn of CLARE MINCHIN'S suc- cess at the University of Manchester where she has been studying Oral Deaf Teaching and passed her finals last July. Clare is returning to Brisbane where she will be in charge of the new Oral Deaf School to be opened next year. She is the only girl in Queensland to have received the Manchester certificate for Pre-school Oral Deaf Teaching and we are very proud of her achievements.
