GRAMMAR FUN FAIR On Saturday, September 18th , the Grammar Fun Fair was held in the grounds of the Brisbane Grammar School. The Fair was organ ised by the Old Girls ' and Old Boys' Associations, the Parents' and Friends' Association and representatives of both schools, under the leadership of Colonel Hubert Harris. It was estimated that over 20,000 people attended during the after- noon and evening, thus making it a monster Fun Fair. In addition to the stalls usually associated with such a function, there were numerous amusements and entertainments to cater for all ages . The Fair was officially opened by the Attorney-General, Mr. Power, acompanied by Mrs. Power, in the preesnce of Old Girls and Old Boys, present girls and boys , their parents and friends, the Trustees, and mem- bers of the staffs of both schools. Afterwards, the official party were entertained at afternoon tea by the presidents of the Old Girls' and Old Boys' Association . Stalls were erected on the main driveway and between the school hall and the War Memorial Library. The amusement area, located on the tennis court, provided a merry-go-round, horse-o' -plane, children's train , etc, and the back drive represented a miniature side-show alley with choco- late wheels, coconut -shy and other forms of entertainment . Also in this area were the snack bar, fairy floss, stalls for ice cream and drinks, and nearby was a barbecue where fowls and a whole sheep were roasted . In the old gymnasium was a R.A.A. F. display, and in the new gymnasium, a mannequin parade was held in three sessions during the afternoon, and in the evening dancing had to be arranged in two sessions, 7-9 p .m. and 9-11 p .m. During the afternoon there was a continuous display of archery, model aircraft flying , gymnastics , pipe band display, etc., on the oval. At fhe time of writing accounts have not been finalised, but it is hoped that nett proceeds will amount to £2,000; half to go towards the Kathleen M. Lilley Library at our school, and the other half to the War Memorial Swimming Pool at the Boys' School. - 48
