landings into water, an overnight rescue and retrieval mission, and participated in the Top Gun competition. Other attractions we visited throughout the trip included: Universal Studios LA; Kennedy Space Centre; Disney World’s Magic Kingdom; monuments in Washington D.C.; Alcatraz Prison; the Golden Gate Bridge; and a starlight paddle in San Francisco’s bay. Throughout the trip many new connections were made with other Grammar girls as well as with students from across the globe. Thank you to Principal, Ms Euler, and Dean of Co-curriculum, Miss Papas, for their continued support of the trip, along with Dr Stephens, Ms Reese, Ms Johnson and Ms Monteith for looking after us and making it the trip of a lifetime. The Brisbane Girls Grammar School Space Trip was definitely one of the most incredible and worthwhile experiences I have had while at the School. During the two weeks we spent in the USA, we visited Los Angeles, Space Camp, Orlando, Washington D.C., and San Francisco. Space Camp, in Huntsville, Alabama, was definitely the highlight of the trip. We had the option to participate in Space Academy or the Aviation Challenge while at the U.S. Space and Rocket Centre (USSRC). While on Space Camp, we learned about space history and engineering, as well as putting theory into practice during our missions. We were able to scuba dive, fly shuttles and rockets in simulators, go on the multi-axis trainer (MAT) and the 1/6th Gravity Chair to simulate a moon walk. In the Aviation Challenge, the girls experienced fighter jet simulators, parachute
SYDNEY DRAMA TOUR
Bangarra Dance Theatre, Bennelong which told a moving and true Australian story through striking design visuals and contemporary dance. On the third day, we spent the morning at National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA), participating in an interesting Realism workshop, honing our acting skills. After a quick trip to the famous Rocks area, we headed to Sydney Theatre Company for a matinee viewing of Cloud Nine at the wharves. This was a nuanced and sophisticated piece of theatre that explored the taboos and complexity of modern identity. It really got us talking. Our final theatre visit was that evening at Belvoir Theatre in Surry Hills. The Rover, a modern take on a Shakespearean-era tale of love and revelry which we all found hilarious from start to finish. The last day was spent engaging in a fast-paced Brecht workshop at Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP), which was overall very fascinating. All of the girls are extremely grateful for this experience as we have had an incredible time and have come back as more enlightened and
During the mid-year June/July holidays, nineteen girls from Year 11 and 12 attended the Sydney Drama Tour, accompanied by Mrs Riveros, Mr Jennings and Ms Churchland. This was such a fantastic experience, in which we participated in drama workshops and we saw four outstanding theatrical productions as well as being immersed in the vibrant and rich cultural and social life of Sydney. On the first day, we explored the city and visited the Museum of Contemporary Art. In the evening we viewed an amazing international touring production of 1984, adapted from George Orwell’s classic novel. The show was extremely confronting and thought-provoking — with its warnings about the future of technology continuing to be relevant to us today. The next day was spent trekking through the CBD, visiting the Gallery of New South Wales, through the Botanic Gardens and arriving for an amazing tour of the Sydney Opera House. Here we viewed a stunning performance by all-Indigenous dance company
