YEAR 9
This year, HPE introduced us to various aspects of health, fitness and sport. We were encouraged to participate in both indoor and outdoor activities, such as volleyball and water polo. It was interesting to engage in sports that we had little experience in, which then lead us to participate in more School sporting co- curricular activities and events. Throughout the year, we also learned the theoretical aspect of Physical Education by analysing our performance with biomechanical concepts and learning about first aid. From theory lessons, we were able to learn and understand how to manage injuries. We know now that if someone was in trouble, we would
This year, HPE has been filled with a variety of opportunities to learn and develop as Year 9 students. We studied a variety of sports and topics including biomechanics, the dangers of alcohol consumption and we explored first aid techniques. Our favourite unit was delving into to the realm of dance and creating our own cha-cha and jive inspired dances with partners. It has been a particularly gratifying subject this year as it allowed us to gain confidence and learn in a relaxed and nurturing, yet challenging environment. EMILY KEOGH (9B) AND DAYLE McDONALD (9H)

YEAR 10
This year, HPE has presented us with a range of different sports and academic concepts. Over the course of the year, we have studied numerous sports including sport aerobics, lifesaving, touch football, volleyball and basketball. By studying this large variety of sports, many new skills and techniques have been developed, enhancing our performance in sport overall. Furthermore, we have learned vital skills, such as first aid, which we can use in a real-life situation. My favourite aspects of the subject, although I enjoyed all of it, would have to be aerobics and volleyball, as they were both new sports that I hadn’t participated in before. I thoroughly enjoyed learning these sports, and it has encouraged me to participate in them further in the future. Although the subject was enjoyable, challenges were faced along the way, including learning the exercise physiology concepts in Term II. Overall, HPE has been
Thanks to HPE I knew exactly what to do when my sister broke her arm. This is because we started Year 10 with a continuation of first aid from Year 9. We learned the steps to treat injuries and look after a casualty in an emergency situation. In Term II, we focused on exercise physiology and explored the different energy systems used throughout the body. We investigated the different fitness components of many different sports and the different training zones used by each sport. We then moved on to discover the importance of biomechanics in Term III. During this unit we focused on a specific movement in a sport and studied the major biomechanical principles involved in the execution of the movement. Throughout the year we have also been focusing on many different sports in the physical performance component of HPE. One of my favourite units was sport aerobics because it was fun, energetic and I enjoy performing. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning each theory unit and playing each sport. HAYLEY EVANS (10R)
