YEAR 7 — CONNECTIONS
Marrapatta was an amazing experience. Many people bonded over the three days we had there, and many more made new friends. We camped out, had amazing food, and even cooked our own pizza and spaghetti bolognaise! I learned that making connections with other people and the environment is a vital part of our lives, as well as being outdoors. Something I plan to work on is to spend less time using technology and socialising online, and more time outdoors and interacting with other people face-to-face. CHARLOTTE WITTMAN (7M) I really enjoyed the programme and I feel like I am going to enjoy the years I have ahead of me at Marrapatta! I really felt like I had a lot of opportunities to interact and get to know other people. The activities we did were both challenging but also super fun! If anything, something I would suggest the other house groups do, is really just to get involved. You only have Marrapatta once a year, so show everyone what you can do! TESS KELLEY (7H) Marrapatta was an extremely fun experience. I loved making the pizza ourselves, without any help from teachers, and I was glad to do it with my friends. The raft-building was exciting and crazy; my raft, the red one (A.K.A Cecil the sinking ship) sank the fastest, which was hilarious. I learned many things about all of my classmates, and I can’t wait to visit Marrapatta again next year. I’m planning to be more confident in myself next year, and be more open to working with others. JESSIE LU (7G)
Marrapatta was a great opportunity to make connections with, others and the environment. Although I had already created some firm friendships, I was able to bond and make new friends through the activities. The best connection building activity in my opinion was raft building. I enjoyed this because I learned about others, strengths, weaknesses and character during a really fun activity. I can’t wait to go to Marrapatta again, it was a great experience. ISABEL SHORROCK-BROWNE (7R) Two of the main connections I made with my classmates was building a stronger bond and working as a team. Sleeping in a tent and having free time to explore with my classmates encouraged me to connect with my peers and find out more about their lives outside of school. Building a raft with six other girls really put our teamwork skills to the test as we all had ideas that we wanted to share. However, it was lucky that the day before we had done some teamwork exercises to help prevent us from doing anything but working as a great team. I could connect to the environment in many ways, although sleeping in a tent and swimming in the creek were the main ones. They were both very different to the cosy bed and hot shower I’m used to at home. When we were sleeping in the tent we could also hear the wildlife, which was awesome, and see the stars clearly. I could connect with myself at Marrapatta as well. Without technology at Marrapatta everything was very peaceful and I could relax. I also found out new things about myself. For example, I am a good leader and very positive when things don’t turn out the way I thought they would. Overall, I enjoyed my time at Marrapatta and can’t wait to attend next year. MADELEINE DAUBER (7O) During the three days I spent at Marrapatta I made many new connections with my classmates, the environment and myself.
