YEAR 12 GEOGRAPHY

This year in Year 12 Geography we have had the opportunity to study a range of relevant and interesting topics. Across the year, we have studied the natural and human environments on national and international scales. We were fortunate enough to be able to have excursions to the suburb of Windsor to study the liveability of the suburb as well as travelling to Boondall Wetlands to observe the biodiversity of the area. These excursions enabled us to apply the knowledge we had learned in the classroom to the real world. Another topic studied was understanding how technology has the ability to connect not only people but places. As students, we recognised the importance of Geography as a subject, its relevance to our society and environment. We also were able to appreciate the inter-relationships between natural environments

and human life and how our modern lifestyle has negatively impacted on the environment around us. There has also been the opportunity to learn of ways that we can decrease these impacts. In our final year of Geography we enjoyed both the theory and practical components of the subject and would encourage any Year levels to undertake the study of this subject. We will apply what we have learnt in Geography to our life in the future. RACHEL MCCREADY (12E) AND LILY MACROSSAN (12W)

meditation and Incan creation myths. We held numerous discussions in our most recent unit surrounding the nature of the human condition, touching on theories of theology, psychology, psychoanalysis and philosophy. This subject has given me valuable insight into the world in which I will soon have to operate, as well as having greatly improved my ability to critically analyse and to research, and these skills will stand me in good stead for university and beyond. I have loved my experience with Study of Religion. It is a type of humanities we were not exposed to in our junior studies, one that brings together history, politics, faith, and philosophy to give us discernment of real-world, current events in Australia and overseas in comprehensive and multi-faceted way. The sheer scope of topics covered in class allows us a great degree of freedom when choosing research focusses for assignments, and this has given me the opportunity to delve into everything from Norse mythology and Islamic fundamentalism to Buddhist
