JUMP ROPE FOR HEART

On Wednesday 14 June in Term II, all Year 7s participated in Jump Rope for Heart (JRFH) 2017. As an added incentive and inspiration for us we were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to see the Sherwood Arrows, a junior skipping group who act as ambassadors for JRFH in action. After seeing this motivating performance a month prior to the Jump Off, many Year 7 girls would get active in the lunch break and visit the sports centre regularly at lunch time to practise skipping skills. After this, we were ready to jump for our heart health and to raise money for research into heart disease and prevention. We learned that heart disease is the single biggest killer of Australians, and results in the loss of one person every twenty- seven minutes. Charlotte Harry (7B) raised more than $2200 alone and was an amazing contributor to the school record-breaking $15445 raised as a cohort. The morning of 14 June was filled with excitement, fun, friends and, of course, skipping!

To our surprise, we were joined by Happy Heart, the Heart Foundation’s mascot! We would like to thank Ms Rees for organising this event and all the staff involved in supervising the morning. We would also like to thank all who donated and the Heart Foundation for raising awareness for heart disease. Many Year 7 girls have decided to ‘pay it forward’ and donate their prizes to children less fortunate than themselves as a gesture of goodwill at Christmas. STUDY BUDDIES PROGRAM

The main part of Study Buddies is the feeling that there is always someone there who will help you with anything, big or small. The Study Buddies Program is aimed at Year 11 students assisting Year 7 and Year 8 students with organisation, time management and developing confidence in study habits. It allows senior students a chance to pass down knowledge they have gained over their time at the School, both academic and co-curricular. CIEL McKAY (8M) My study buddy, Ciel, and I meet every Wednesday afternoon, where we focus on study skills, assignment preparation and difficult concepts she has recently learnt in class. We also discuss the most effective ways to work and little tricks and hints that make school life easier and more enjoyable. The most rewarding part of the Study Buddy Program is the bonds and friendships formed throughout the year. ALICIA HARASTY (11M)
