YEAR 11 CHARITY SOCIAL July: the seventh month, a midpoint — a generally mundane month during which our positions in time as students are bookended by six months’ hard work on either front, and many of us are bracing for the impact of Term III assessment. Given these circumstances, a weekend in late July would appear on the surface to serve merely as a routine end to a routine week. But for the Brisbane Girls Grammar School Year 11 students, this was not the case. On Saturday 22 July, we were extended the extraordinary opportunity to attend the Brisbane Grammar School and Brisbane Girls Grammar School Combined Schools Charity Social. The weeks — and for some, months — leading up to this inimitable event were spent researching dresses, painting nails, attending fittings, pursuing spray tanning as an extreme sport, and working hard to raise our pain thresholds in preparation for the impending hours of sporting heels taller than some of us. The boys were sharply dressed, but of course were easily outdone by the army of resplendent girls. Thanks to the hard work of our combined schools Social Committee, the Great Gatsby-themed evening was a wonderful success, and we are all excited for our Year 12 Formal next year, if a little intimidated by the inevitably higher heels.
