Ms Fiona Albert (2007) was named as a member of the Australian Women’s Eight in the 2016 Australian Olympics Team. Fiona is the first Old Girl to represent Australia in Rowing at the Olympics and we congratulate her on competing at the pinnacle level of her sport in Rio de Janeiro.

QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY HONOUR Brisbane Girls Grammar School old girl Mrs Alison Mary O’Malley (Don, 1971) was recognised in the 2016 Queen’s Birthday Honours List. Alison was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the community of Bundaberg through music. Alison has been the Bundaberg Orpheus Singers Society’s musical director since 1978 and won the Wight Memorial Medal for Music at Girls Grammar in 1970. Ms Caitlin Wilson (1986), Deputy Permanent Representative and Deputy Head of Mission, Australian Permanent Mission to the United Nations, has been named winner of Queensland University of Technology Business School’s Outstanding Alumni Award for 2016. Recognised for her 23 years of international experience spanning foreign policy, international development and strategic defence, Caitlin has dedicated her career to improving stability and security in conflict- affected countries with a particular emphasis towards improving gender equality. EXCELLENCE IN WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP Ms Julie McKay (2000) has been awarded the 2016 ACT Award for Excellence in Women’s Leadership by Women and Leadership Australia. Julie was acknowledged for her work as the former Executive Director of the Australian National Committee for UN Women along with her ongoing work as Gender Advisor to the Chief of the Defence Force. QUT AWARDS OUTSTANDING ALUMNI

London-based Old Girls Dr Eleni Anthony (Head Girl, 2000) and Ms Jessica Heading (2000) were invited to represent Brisbane Girls Grammar School within the Royal Enclosure at the Royal Windsor Horse Show; one of the official celebrations for the Queen’s 90th Birthday in the United Kingdom in May 2016. Brisbane Girls Grammar School appears in the official commemorative album marking The Queen’s 90th Birthday.

OLD GIRLS ASSOCIATION CELEBRATES OPEN DAY

Tea, coffee and hot chocolate was served by members of the Old Girls Association in the Annie Mackay room during Open Day celebrations.
