managing to dramatically lower her handicap to one she now plays in tournaments all over Australia. Golf is her passion and in a perfect world Annabel says she would be happy playing golf in the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) for the rest of her days. But keeping her options open, Annabel is studying a Bachelor of Business majoring in Sports Management at Griffith University and is also in the process of obtaining a PGA teaching card. Next year Annabel will move to California, USA where she will continue her studies and pursue her golfing career. Once she completes her studies Annabel is planning to join the professional circuit. Golf has become a popular sport at Brisbane Girls Grammar School. First introduced in 1984 it has become a valuable component of the Senior Physical Education Programme. There are currently 70 girls from both Years 11 and 12 who participate in the School’s golf programme.

Natalie and Liz Christiansen (2000) became involved with the volunteers programme at the Royal Children’s Hospital through Radio Rainbow, an activity which was offered to them during their final year at Brisbane Girls Grammar School. As Year 12 students they spent one afternoon a week assisting on Twins Work Wonders Annabel Rolley (2000) was a strong sportswoman during her time at Brisbane Girls Grammar School and was selected into the Metropolitan East Golf Team in her final year. After leaving school Annabel took to playing golf more seriously. As a Scholarship holder with the Queensland Academy of Sport, she is committed to improving her game and skills. Central to the conference was the theme “The Value of Outdoor Education” which embraced recent government initiatives relating to Values Education. It recognised that Outdoor Education is well placed to develop students’ personal and community values through the process of experiential education. It was also the chance to investigate ways of adding value to programmes through the addition of technology, creative arts and cuisine. In addition to showcasing Marrapatta’s facilities, the conference provided Outdoor

The girls continue to volunteer every Tuesday night at the Wonderful Factory — a giant children’s playroom with disco lights and movie screen. They join in with the kids playing music videos, movies and games. They also participate in the programme’s in-house television station which broadcasts live from the room. Creative Arts Bursary

Careers Mentoring Breakfast The 2006 Careers Mentoring Breakfast, the last one to be managed by Friends of Girls Grammar, will be held in the BGS Centenary Hall on Wednesday 18 October. An important part of the tertiary advisory programme for senior students this vibrant event attracts over 250 students and 50 mentors, many of whom return annually to speak with our enthusiastic students about their own career paths and the options available to students.

Friendship Circle

Friends of Girls Grammar has allocated over $45,000, held in trust and invested by the School, to enable the Friends of Girls Grammar Bursary in Creative Arts to be given in perpetuity. The Bursary recipient is selected from applications received from students in the creative arts. Students are able to use the bursary to attend a conference, workshop or training identified by them as beneficial to their future career development.

The Fathers Group has a long association with Marrapatta and it continues to provide an important connection between the Fathers Group and the School. The fathers’ contributions have helped to develop and maintain facilities at the Centre. As well as the physical and social aspect of the Fathers Group’s working bees, fathers use the opportunity to talk to other fathers and share their collective wisdom on being parents to teenaged girls. Recently the group completed a ‘Friendship Circle’, a six metre circular paved area with adjoining pathway which provides a much-needed outdoor meeting place where girls can gather for briefings, lunches, stargazing or other activities.
