OFFICIAL NAMING OF THE PAULINE HARVEY-SHORT OVAL

Mrs Harvey-Short attended the School as a student in England House in 1967. After pursuing a career as a teacher, she returned to the School in the Health and Physical Education department in 1977. During her 40 years at the School, Pauline held positions including Head of Health and Physical Education, Director of Sport, Associate Dean, and eventually Dean of School before retiring at the end of 2017. As Mrs Harvey-Short reflected in her speech, an oval is a site of possibility—it is a space in which girls can improve their athletic ability, learn leadership and teamwork, and challenge themselves. The oval will be a fitting legacy for a staff member who has dedicated her career to nurturing these and many other qualities in thousands of Girls Grammar students.

The School has officially named an oval at Rangakarra Recreational and Environmental Education Centre in honour of long-serving Girls Grammar staff member, Mrs Pauline Harvey-Short. Following the School’s annual Interhouse Cross Country event on Thursday 29 March at Rangakarra, staff, current and past students, and Mrs Harvey-Short’s close family and friends joined her in unveiling a plaque designed to sit alongside a commemorative fig tree in the corner of the newly named oval.
