Financial Literacy Club

FinLit—a Financial Literacy Club established by students in 2023—is a Club where Year 10 to 12 students broaden their knowledge of essential financial concepts and skills while also connecting with like-minded peers. Throughout the year we’ve not only covered topics including worker rights, taxes, and investing, but have also had the privilege to hear from the CFO of BGGS as well as teachers with expertise in real-world finance. As a student-led Club, we collaborated to research, present, and choose each topic, shaping what we wanted FinLit in 2024 to become. Through each session, we hope we have empowered our Grammar sisters with vital financial knowledge and skills that they can use wherever life takes them. It is safe to say FinLit 2024 was a massive success, and we can't wait to see how it continues to develop in the future. Emily Crosisca (12M) and Katie Buntain (12O) FinLit Leaders

Japanese Club

J Club continued to educate students in Japan’s cultural richness in 2024 by deepening our appreciation for customs and traditions. We immersed ourselves in Japanese culture through games such as Fukuwarai (a traditional New Year’s game), researched iconic Japanese characters as part of a photo board project, and held a Kendama challenge to celebrate Children’s Day. One standout event was the student led Pokémon Go Amazing Race, where participants raced around the School grounds collecting Club members’ favourite Pokémon and solving riddles. A cooking workshop making gyoza—led by chef Keita Kujiura, in collaboration with Chinese Club—enhanced members’ culinary skills and cultural understanding, but our most impactful endeavour was our 1000 paper cranes project— a challenging yet profound task.

The process forged a strong sense of community as we worked together to achieve our goal, and students on the BGGS Japan Study Tour laid these at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial to pay respect on our behalf. J Club has been a cornerstone of my high school experience, providing a deep dive into Japan’s customs and fostering a strong sense of community and purpose. Despite not having formal Japanese language education, many students were drawn to J Club for its inclusive environment, enriching activities, and community spirit; and it satisfied on every front.
