Chinese Club
NIHAO! Women shi zhongguo xuesheng! Hello, we are Chinese students! We are so excited to dive into all of the fun things that we do in Chinese Club. Chinese Club is coordinated by Ms Paula Quinn and is a stellar opportunity for native and non-native students to enhance their understanding of the unique culture. There are many language competition events throughout the year, including the Griffith University Languages Competition. When there aren’t any competition speeches, Ms Quinn organises fun cultural activities such as Chinese paper-cutting and calligraphy. One of our favourite events from this year so far was the Chinese New Year celebration at the beginning of the year. It was here that students received Hongbao and watched the yellow dragon walk across the School in the celebratory parade. Charlotte Minnery (7E) Design Club provides students from all Year-levels an opportunity to get creative and build their own individual designs. With a large variety of tools at our disposal such as laser cutters and 3D printers, students are provided with everything they could need to make their creations come to life. I am fortunate enough to be a part of Design Club again this year and loved making gifts for both my friends and family. This year, I created an acrylic board with a wooden base for my parents 25th wedding anniversary. I was able to laser print a personalised message for my parents and I was part of all the stages involved in the design process. I found this experience extremely valuable, not only being able to hone my designing and creating skills, but also meet students from other grades and bond over our shared love for creativity.
