Year 8 Program: Navigate
An acrostic poem that spells out MARRAPATTA! I wrote this on the bus back reflecting on the lovely experience I had at camp. The week was chaotic and different, but this poem was based on overcoming challenges together with friends and about not
being alone in your struggles. Many hills of vibrant green, A fantastical place quite far from me. Rolling hills imbued with peace Ridden of in our grey city. A campsite that echoes with laughter and fun Penetrates the worries that may come. A familiar tent swallowed by smiles or tears That helps us enjoy each others company, That draws us closer together, All to bring back and remember forever. Felicity Le (8B)
The Year 8 program was, if anything, refreshing. Difficult and strenuous—yes; hot and tiring—yes, but at the same time ... it was refreshing. I felt as if I had been pushed to my limits, and then forced to do more than I ever imagined I was capable of. At the time, I didn't realise, but now I do. Camp was an experience like no other. My relationships were strengthened, reforged by the collective hardship everyone shared. There's nothing like spending time with friends outside of an academic setting, and sitting beneath a sky filled with stars, gazing at the campfire. I now have powerful connections with all my friends, hilarious memories I'll remember forever, and a strong sense of teamwork that I will carry through for the rest of my life. Laughs and hugs, giggles and exhaustion, terror and excitement. Marrapatta has it all. I only wish I stayed a little longer. Charlotte Lin (8O) I think Navigate is a really important part of the Marrapatta experience. There are a lot of challenges to overcome, but at every step there is someone to support you while letting you be independent. Two big highlights for me were the mountain biking and high ropes. It’s really fun to just push out of your comfort zone and expand on the skills you gained in Year 7. It’s a really fun experience learning how to make your own food, set up a tent and canoeing in a river! Charlotte Royle (8R)
