Health & Physical Education
Health and Physical Education (HPE) plays a significant role in shaping every Grammar girl’s experience. From Year 7, where theory ranges from nutrition to personal health and practical learning consisting of Gymnastics, Swimming, Lifesaving, ball sports and Athletics; it is a great introduction to the HPE curriculum at BGGS. In junior HPE, emphasis is placed on fostering involvement in a safe and inclusive environment and providing an opportunity for practical learning—a point of difference between HPE and other subjects. Additionally, the topics explored in the Junior Curriculum have real-life applications and lay the foundations for a seamless transition into the senior PE curriculum. After three years of fun in junior PE, the decision to continue in senior was a no-brainer. Personal highlights for us have been: the infamous aerobics unit; saving our friends using vital lifesaving skills we learned in the lifesaving unit; and the genuine connections we have made with our senior PE teachers—Ms Amy Penberthy and Mr Stephen Fogarty. Senior PE offers students the opportunity to learn outside of the busy classroom environment by engaging in physical activity.
HPE has been very special to us over our years at BGGS and we will look back on our time in the subject fondly. The staff have always welcomed us with open and enthusiastic arms which has played a significant role in the success of the subject at our school. The subject has provided us with new friendships, great memories, and a diverse education that we will take with us as we transition into the next stages of our lives and the years to come.
