Galentine’s Day

Galentine’s Day in 2024 was a wonderful day—we celebrated our individuality and showcased our genuine love and affection towards our fellow Girls Grammar sisters. As we walked through the white picket fence, vibrant pinks and reds radiated all throughout the School, with Years 11 and 12 going all out and decorating their tables in a bid to be awarded the very coveted ‘Best Decorated Table’ title. Our amazingly talented Student Council, along with a number of other passionate Grammar girls, created specially designed badges for the community to buy, and—for only a small donation—offered artistic face painting.

Thanks to their dedication and enthusiasm, we were able to share beyond the School gates and fundraise for our 2024 School Charity, Cancer Council Queensland. At lunch, we sang and danced our hearts out, accompanied by our amazing student buskers on the pool lawn. The day was also filled with appreciation and gratitude towards our outstanding teachers who have believed, guided, and supported us throughout our BGGS journey. We think it’s safe to say that Galentine’s Day this year was truly a sight for sore eyes! Bridget Ng (12L) and Emma Cribb (12L)

Arts Fest

2024 Arts Fest was bigger and brighter than ever. In line with our motto for this year, we set out to give Arts Fest a GLOW up, with as many artsy events as possible. The two-week celebration began with the Interhouse Choir Competition, which reached an incredible standard this year, with every House performing exciting choralography and harmonies. Our expert adjudicator, Ms Tori Longdon, then led workshops for our Chamber singers and conductors. Throughout the rest of Arts Fest, the School enjoyed busking performances, BGDA and QDU Debates, Art Workshops and more.

Our favourite events were the two Staff-Student competitions. The Staff-Student Comedy Debate was an hilarious hour of very serious discussion of the topic: ‘that AI is the biggest threat to our future’. Despite our Senior A team’s best efforts, the Year 11 Adjudicators awarded the debate to the teacher team. Next, we held the inaugural Battle of the Bands competition, where our beloved Balkan Band challenged a team of teachers. Complete with a Balkan cover of Britney Spears’ Toxic , a rendition of You Belong With Me (by Taylor Staff? Teacher Swift?), and a fantastic diss-track-style rap, this new event was the perfect way to conclude Arts Fest for 2024. Dorothy Rae (12G) and Ella Edwards (12G)
