Volleyball

This year has been a big one for BGGS Volleyball—full of wins, losses and learning experiences—and we couldn’t be more proud with the season. With nine out of our 12 teams (Senior A, Senior B, 10B, 9B, 8A, 8B, 7A, 7B, 7C) placing within the top three of their respective divisions in the QGSSSA competition, we are so impressed with the girls’ commitment and dedication to the Sport. Volleyball has played a very special part in our experience at BGGS. We have made many friends across Year-levels throughout our time playing. With our True Blue round being the last True Blue event of the year, the players truly showcased their Girls Grammar spirit as they rallied to support their Volleyball sisters. The BGGS Volleyball community has been welcoming, encouraging, and is one we will miss. Of course, our season would not have been such a success if it weren’t for our wonderful coordinator, Ms Taylor Goltz. Her consistent support and organisation allowed for the season to run incredibly smoothly, and we are so grateful. We extend this gratitude to all coaches and staff members involved in making the 2024 Volleyball season as amazing as it was. Amelia Owen (12W) and Emily Hourigan (12M) Volleyball Captains

Water Polo

BGGS Water Polo is really like no other. With the opportunity to start the Sport while in Year 6, it gives students the opportunity to grow closer to one another and unite the sisterhood early. One of our main goals for the season—which was accomplished during the Opens gold medal match at the Valley Pool—was to increase enthusiasm around the pool and on pool deck. We couldn’t have done it without our amazing coordinator, Ms Melissa Rippon. Our year was full of hard work, team spirit, challenging defeats and lots of triumphant victories. We had a grand total of five teams to battle it out in the gold and bronze medal matches. By the end of the day, two of our teams—the U15 BGGS 17 and the U16 BGGS 19—were victorious and left with the coveted gold medal hanging around their necks.

We also competed in the Queensland State Titles and the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships where we took on teams from across the state and the country. We love having so many players dedicate themselves to these competitions, especially as they are on holiday breaks. Charlie Howard (12G) and Lucy Taylor (12M) Water Polo Captains
