From The Sports Captains
Sport at Brisbane Girls Grammar School in 2024 has truly embodied our motto– One team, blue dream #BGGSDreamTeam . Earlier this year the individual Sports Captains came together to finalise this motto which represents the idea of unity, supporting and playing for each other whilst collectively striving as the BGGS dream team. This year the spirit displayed at each True Blue event has been a remarkable highlight for us. At the QGSSSA Swimming, Cross Country (where we came 2nd!), and the BWPI Grand Finals, it was incredible to see the unwavering support from the sea of royal blue. The Women in Sport seminar was held in Term 3 in conjunction with Educate and Empower. The seminar featured a panel of five girls from Years 10 to 12 and Ms Sally Callie. All panellists spoke about their sporting experience at national or international events and how to manage being a student athlete. We are so grateful to them for sharing their stories. In the theme of recognising our athletes, the Sports Appreciation Board was introduced. This allowed students or
their friends to submit sport achievements to be displayed. Some features include an Australian Ultimate Frisbee player, members of the Water Polo QLD Development Team, and state or national champions in Cross Country and Rowing! Additionally, to encourage spirit and support, Open team line-ups for our True Blue events were created to recognise the girls who have reached the top level of their sport at our School. We are so grateful to Luxe Godfrey-Asseraf (12M) for designing the line-ups and helping the vision come to life. We would like to express our gratitude for Director of Sport, Ms Jane Gooden, for her wonderful support and guidance throughout the year. Our appreciation also goes to the HPE staff, Sports staff, and the Sports Captains for their undivided support and spirit—they have truly helped create a memorable year of sport. Artistic Gymnastics
Artistic Gymnastics is a sport that promotes hard work, creativity, and teamwork. It is inclusive to all skill levels and allows girls to continuously learn new skills throughout the season. It is exhilarating because it combines graceful movements with thrilling challenges, allowing athletes to showcase their strength, flexibility, and creativity in a dazzling display.
This year, we met our goals of increasing participation, sending 12 teams to the QGSSSA Artistic Gymnastics competition. There was a record breaking four teams in D Grade, two in C Grade, and three teams in the Year 7 division. The 2024 competition achieved outstanding results, with five teams placing in the top four. The Year 7 Team One triumphantly took first place, Opens placed second, and D grade Team-One and B Grade coming a close third. None of this could be achieved without our coordinator, Ms Anne Conlan. Her dedication to Artistic Gymnastics inspired us all this season and the immense effort behind the scenes ensured the season ran smoothy.
