2024 School Magazine
Arts 2024 was yet another jam-packed year for Arts at BGGS. As Arts Captains, we set out to inspire creativity through our motto— Grow your G.L.O.W. (Gratitude, Love, Optimism, Wonder). We’re proud to say that this year has been a resounding success. Our efforts were focused on encouraging every student to engage in the Arts, regardless of their career aspirations or co-curricular activities. This commitment led us to discover numerous opportunities to showcase the incredible talents of both students and staff whenever possible. Our signature Staff-Student Duet Competition stands out as a prime example of these efforts. This event invites students to support their classmates, express gratitude towards our teachers, and admire the musical skills of our staff. Such events underscore the importance of the Arts in our lives, demonstrating that they remain relevant and accessible regardless of our future paths. Additionally, we fully embraced the School motto, #tietheblue, which galvanised support for key events like the Senior A debates, Gala Concert, and the BGS and BGGS Senior Drama co-production of Romeo and Juliet . By encouraging students to attend and cheer for their peers, we fostered a sense of community and mutual inspiration. Performing for one another creates a ripple effect of appreciation and motivation, enhancing our collective artistic spirit. Overall, we are immensely proud of every artist at BGGS for their dedication and positive attitude throughout the year. Your enthusiasm and commitment have been truly inspiring. Let’s continue to Grow our G.L.O.W. and carry this momentum into 2025! Dorothy Rae (12G) and Ella Edwards (12G) Arts Captains
Arts Captains Review
Art Activities
This year has been a creativity-filled year for Brisbane Girls Grammar School Art activities, all thanks to our Head of Department, Mr Donald Pincott, and Visual Art teachers—Ms Kirsten Eadie and Ms Cassandra-Lyn Palmer. Term 1 was an extravagant term for the BGGS Art Department. Led by printmaker, Glen Skien, the Term 1 Workshop’s focus was Experimenting with Drypoint Etching . One of our largest Art Walks toured the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) Fairy Tales exhibition, and the Term 1 Art Café welcomed guest speaker, Judy Watson, to share her insight on her personal practices. In Term 2, we had two workshops: one exploring the technique of Gel Printing; and the other exploring Eco-Dyeing Textiles. We also ventured to the Queensland Art Gallery’s Mudunama kundana wandaraba jarribirri (Judy Watson) exhibition and were delighted to view Watson’s pieces in person.
During Term 3, we had a Print and Stitch workshop where students created their own concertina books, and our second Workshop dove into Watercolour and the Tunisian landscape. The Term 3 Art Walk took us to Iris Van Herpen at GOMA. That is another year of BGGS Art activities—thank you to all for contributing and attending.
